UK tender alert options compared: free portals, £5k platforms, and what small firms actually need

If you've searched for tender alerts, you've met both extremes: free government emails that bury you in irrelevant notices, and enterprise platforms quoted at thousands of pounds a year. Here's an honest map of the options — including where we fit and where we don't.

Option 1: Contracts Finder / Find a Tender alerts (free)

Good: official, free, comprehensive. Hard: raw keyword matching across every industry — expect clean-energy consultations in your "cleaning" alerts and IT notices in your "security" ones; no value filtering; procurement-speak titles. Best for: firms with someone willing to triage a noisy inbox weekly. If that's you, genuinely: use them, they cost nothing.

Option 2: Enterprise platforms (Tracker/BiP, Stotles paid tiers, Tenders Direct)

Good: multi-source coverage (including private-sector signals), bid-team workflow tools, account managers. Hard: pricing built for organisations that bid weekly — publicly discussed figures run from ~£600/user/mo to ~£5,000+/yr, with sales-call-only pricing and annual contracts; reviews frequently mention auto-renewal disputes. Best for: firms with a dedicated bid function bidding at volume.

Option 3: Lightweight matched alerts (BidCrier and similar)

Good: a filtered daily/weekly email for your trade, area and contract size, in plain English, at coffee money (we're testing £9–29/mo; founding waitlist locks £9.50/mo). Hard: narrower than enterprise tools by design — no bid-writing features, no private-sector leads, and (for us specifically, honestly) we're new: our boards are live and free so you can judge relevance before anyone pays. Best for: small firms that bid a few times a year and mainly need to see the right notices in time.

The practical test

  1. Set up a free Contracts Finder alert for your trade today.
  2. Look at our free live boards for a week alongside it.
  3. If the free alerts serve you well — keep them and spend nothing.
  4. If you're drowning in noise or missing things, that's the problem the paid tiers exist for; pick the cheapest one that solves it.

Next step: join the waitlist to get the weekly round-up free while we build — and tell us honestly on the form what alerts would be worth to you. That answer genuinely shapes the price.

Comparison based on publicly available pricing pages and reviews as of July 2026 — check vendors' current pricing directly. We are not affiliated with any platform named. No fabricated savings or success claims.
